MEET A REGEN FARMER

Ed Horton On His Regen Farming Journey

What Farming Regeneratively Really Means

There are huge benefits that come with committing to a Regenerative Farming model, both environmental and for your bottom line. We spoke with one of our suppliers, Ed Horton, to find out what going Regen has meant for him and his family farm.

Get More With Less

Ed told us how he has managed to achieve the same protein count using half the inputs he would have to have done, if using a conventional farming model, in a challenging growing year. While other farms have had to use up to 220kgs of Nitrogen per hectare to get the protein content needed, Ed has achieved the same protein content with less than half the fertilizer.

More Resilience

Ed started his Regen journey 9+ years ago in response to the dropping profitability in farming and uncertainty about the future of the sector. Regen allowed them to become more sustainable financially for the long term - while also making space for bio-diversity, protecting water quality, and improving soil health.

Ed's Advice For Your Regen Journey

"It's really important to have a goal in mind when you begin your Regen Journey. If you know where you want to get to, it will make it easier to focus. We wanted to improve soil health, improve biodiversity, and reduce a large portion of risk."

Removing Risk & Reducing Inputs

Much of the risk farmers face comes from external sources - such as buying in expensive external inputs, like fertilisers or chemicals. Removing some of this risk, reducing the dependence on buying inputs also reduces the need for crops to perform so well in order to pay farmers back.
