What do we require from our Regenerative Farmers?
We have worked closely with our network of growers to develop comprehensive requirements for our Regenerative Farming suppliers. The headline standards framework is available below. 5 Years Regenerative Farming
Farms have been practicing the defined set of regen practices for at least 5 years. New farms can gain from start up premiums to qualify for the road to regen.
Agree Standards & Audit
Farms agree to implement the agreed Matthews Regenerative standards and sign up to be independently audited by a 3rd party.
Proven increase to soil organic matter
Core Objective 1: Farms are regenerating the soil organic matter over a period of 5 years+. This can be proven by taking soil organic matter tests.
Increasing biodiversity
Core Objective 2: Farms are making tangible improvements to their farm’s biodiversity. They can show evidence of a host of actions to increase the presence of diverse microbes, insects, and animals.
Improved water quality & retention
Core Objective 3: Farms incorporate a host of practices that are improving water quality, retention which leads to a reduction in water run off.
Carbon sequestration & emission reduction
Core Objective 4: Farms are sequestering carbon from the atmosphere and reducing their farm emissions. Working towards a net zero farm mitigating the effects of climate change.
Fair trade & food security
Farmers are paid a fair price for the grain and offered a premium. The supply chain charges a fair price to the end consumer bringing it as close to conventional as possible.
Traceability
From the fields our Regenerative grain is grown, the barn it is stored in to the mill, the Regen grain is 100% traceable. Regen flour customers can visit the farms and trace the journey back.
