Introduction of Folic Acid Fortification in Non‑Wholemeal Wheat Flours

We are writing to update you on upcoming changes to the composition and labelling of our flour products in line with amendments to the Bread and Flour Regulations (2024).

Mandatory Fortification Requirement

The UK government now requires that all non‑wholemeal wheat flour must be fortified with folic acid to support public health. All flour producers must comply no later than the 13th of December 2026.

Folic acid will be added at the regulated level of 250 micrograms per 100g of flour, ensuring our products meet the new legislative standards for UK millers.

We are preparing to introduce folic acid fortification across our white flours and flour blends containing white wheat flour from 1st June 2026.

Products Affected

  • All white wheat flours
  • Blended or speciality flours using white flour as the base (e.g. Cotswold Crunch, Eight Grain, Maizebite)

Products Not Affected

Packaging & Specifications

During the transition period (now through to late 2026), the regulations allow temporary misalignment between product composition and packaging declarations. Some packaging may already be updated in anticipation of fortification, even where folic acid has not yet been added, which is permitted within the transition window.
