Panasonic Top Tip:

This method works on just the “bake only” menu, where you mix yourself before adding to your bread maker, but it will also work well on the “Cake Menu” (if your machine has this). We’ve provided both methods for your convenience, and which one you need will depend on the settings available on your bread making machine. We used the SD-R2530 when creating this recipe, and tested the bake only on the SD-2500 too.

Bread Maker Cake Setting

When your bread maker has the “Cake” setting on its bake menu, like on the SD-R2530, you can add all the ingredients to the pan and it does the mixing and baking for you. For this use Method A below.

Bread Maker Bake Only

If your machine doesn’t have a Cake setting (*editor’s note: like my trusty old SD-2500) you can mix the ingredients first and use the “Bake Only” setting. To do this jump straight to Method B below.

Method A – Bread maker with “Cake” setting:

  • Grease the pan of your breadmaker with a non-stick spray or brush with melted butter
  • Place all of the ingredients in the breadmaker pan and activate the “Cake” setting
  • When prompted, test the cake to make sure it’s baked by inserting a skewer – if it comes out clean the cake is baked – if not extend the bake time accordingly
  • Once baked, remove from the pan of the breadmaker and cool on a wire rack

Method B – Bread maker without “Cake” setting

  • Mix all the ingredients together a large mixing bowl until well combined with no lumps remaining
  • Grease the pan of your bread maker with a non-stick spray or brush with melted butter
  • Transfer the cake mixture into your bread machine pan and select the ‘Bake Only’ setting and bake for 45 minutes
  • Test the cake to see if it’s baked by inserting a skewer - if it comes out clean the cake is baked – if not extend the bake time accordingly
  • Once baked, remove from the pan of the bread maker and cool on a wire rack.

When your cake has cooled sufficiently, slice, serve and enjoy!
